Constituted 30 July 1943 in the Army of the United States as the 704th Ordnance Light Maintenance Company and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division Activated 1 August 1943 at Fort Dix, New Jersey Reorganized and redesignated 1 December 1945 as the 704th Ordnance Maintenance Company Inactivated 2 March 1946 at Camp Butner, North Carolina Allotted 25 June 1948 to the Regular Army Activated 6 July 1948 at Ford Ord, California Reorganized and redesignated 1 April 1953 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 704th Ordnance Battalion (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated) Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1963 as the 704th Maintenance Battalion Inactivated 15 April 1985 at Fort Carson, Colorado Redesignated 1 May 1987 as the 704th Support Battalion and activated at Fort Carson, Colorado, as an element of the 4th Infantry Division
