It is a two week field exercise for the soldiers of Charlie Company. The ambulance crew receives a 911 emergency call at 0230 in the morning. There is a problem with soldiers located approximately 10 miles from us. It seems that the four of them are extremely sick. The first up ambulance crew is up and prepared to go in ten minutes to pick up the soldiers in their ambulance. They take the medications they ordered and received prior to this exercise from the Division Medical Supply Office with them for treatment. They receive additional assistance from treatment platoon.

When they arrive at the site they evaluate each soldier. They find that one soldier has severe vision problems, so they know immediately after stabilizing his eye that they have to get this soldier to our optometry section. They move on to the next patient and find that he has chipped two front teeth and has a broken leg. They determine that they need to send him to our X-ray tech for X-rays of his leg and then to our Dentist for treatment. Another soldier is babbling on about how tired he is of everything. The medics determine that he needs to see our Mental Health specialist. The last soldier tells us that he is severely dehydrated and has been throwing up continually and has diarrhea. He says that two of his friends have had the same symptoms. They may have to send him to our lab tech to get blood work done on him.

The medics load the patients up into the ambulance and gives them en route care until they reach the treatment area. They coordinate the dental, optometry, and mental health care for all of the other soldiers involved and explain to Preventive Medicine(PM) section that there are three soldiers with diarhea and vomiting. PM goes out to do an investigation and finds that the cause of the sickness is due to the food not being stored at the correct temperature. They report this to the unit’s food service officer before they are allowed to serve food to any other soldiers.

This is all in a days work with Charlie Med. Charlie Rock!!!!!
